I’m SO excited to be in a new house for Christmas this year and to have a playroom to decorate with bright fun colors for the boys! My boys love “old times cars”. I thought it would be fun to add a touch of a “old times” vibe with a Vintage Car Christmas Sign made with reclaimed wood from our stash.

I started out with this frame. You can find the full details on how to make one just like it here!

Since I was going for a vintage look with a foam brush I painted a light layer of cream paint leaving spots of wood showing through.

After that dried I brushed on an even lighter layer of white over the top of all of the cream. I am loving the shabby chic-ness of this!

I opened my Cricut Design Space™ and found this adorable vintage looking car {Holiday Cakes Collection Automobile}; Merry Christmas {Jubliee Collection}; Tree {Christmas Cheer Collection}. We love National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and this reminded me of the iconic cutting down the Christmas tree scene.

Once I had my images the way I wanted them I cut the stencil out on cardstock with my Cricut Explore™ and traced around the stencil with a pencil.

Now it was time to paint! I love painting signs like this, it’s totally my grown-up version of a coloring book. I loved to color as a kid! My colors are:  Martha’s Tartan Red & Green Olive, and Apple Barrel’s Barn Red which is brown on the tree trunk. After everything was all painted I felt like it needed a little sharpening with a black edge so I took a black sharpie and traced the outer edges.

I love how my Vintage Car Christmas Sign turned out! I can’t wait to use my Cricut Explore™ to create more fun holiday projects! Have you ordered one yet!?! Check out this Cricut Explore® Machine + Basic Starter Set !

I absolutely love this sign. You did a great job painting it in and think outlining images with black marker makes it all show up much better. Would you mind if I did my version of this? I’d love to hang this in our living room for holidays and maybe sell couple of them in craft show we’re hoping to be in on 12/13. The show is juried so we won’t know til after 11/30.
This is so darned cute, little different but think this image is becoming quite popular, seeing it all over blog land in one version or another. We have some lumber from pallets and wherever else we can get it to make a frame and the backing as you did. Like how you did the painting on backing and frame, the rustic look goes with the subject matter.
    Happy weekend
