Chalkboard Handwriting Discs

I’m one of those mamas who loves to give my kids educational gifts. I feel like you get more bang for your buck…fun & learning! My little boys need to work on handwriting and these Chalkboard Handwriting Discs will make the most fabulous stocking stuffers!

I wish I could say that this was totally my idea but the truth of the matter is that I saw this first on Pinterest by Swoon. {You really need to follow me on Pinterest if you aren’t already, I pin little gems like this all the time!} While Randi made hers with chalkboard paint and stencils, I knew that I could make these in no time flat with my AUH-MAZING Cricut Explore™ and some chalkboard vinyl. Seriously, guys I love this thing! This post also contains affiliate links. has cut everything right down to the smallest detail perfectly! You NEED one of these on your Christmas list! Ok I’m done freaking out now….

To make your own Chalkboard Handwriting Discs you’ll need:

26 wooden discs {Mine are from Michael’s and are generally 2.5″ in diameter but vary a bit.}

chalkboard vinyl

Cricut Explore *If you don’t have one you can totally cut these out with a craft knife and a pair of scissors but it’s so quick & easy with a cutting machine!

I typed the alphabet in my Cricut Design Space using Nates ABC font in both upper and lowercase letters. Using the vinyl setting on my machine, I cut out the chalkboard vinyl letters. Easy, peasy! {Just a little tip….measure the smallest disc you have and make your letters to fit that one. Not that I had to recut my letters because I accidently measured the largest disc…ahem.}

I decided to give my wooden discs a coat of matte Mod Podge to protect them from little boy hands.

Once they were dry, I simply peeled off the letters and stuck them in the center of each disc.

Uppercase letters on one side and lowercase letters on the other side.

Ok, so they aren’t perfectly centered but oh well close enough! I love the way they turned out! They look so modern and cool, don’t they!?!

I want to practice my handwriting on them.

I picked up a Christmas tin {this guy will get a makeover after Christmas but I knew the boys would love their little holiday tins on Christmas morning} at the drug store for a dollar and it is the perfect holder for the discs, three pieces of chalk {I love collections of three don’t you!?!}; and a square of felt for an eraser.

Don’t you want to make a set of these Chalkboard Handwriting Discs for your kiddos!?!
